The highlight of Cultured Expressions’ SewJourn Santa Fe is our two-day workshop with master fiber artist Gasali Adeyemo.  We immersed ourselves in glorious indigo, learning his batik and tie-dye techniques, along with the cultural significance of indigo in Yoruba culture.

I always provide the SewJourners with white brocade fabric and rubber gloves to use during the workshop, but I always look forward to the opportunity to dunk my hands into the freshly prepared indigo.  This year, I was accompanied by several of the participants. Who needs gloves when you can experience the undeniable spirit that exists in the dye.

Later that day, we took it to the NextLevel by applying clear nail polish to preserve the indigo dye on our nails only, as the rest of it washed away or wore off…

We loved he results!  I generally don’t bother with nail polish on my fingers, but this here is different.  i guess it’ll be my once-a-year Indigo manicure.  I wonder how long it will last with a few touchups of clear…

Join me in Santa Fe next year for authentic indigo batik… and manicures ; )  Thanks, brother Gasali!!

We’ve morphed this year’s SewJourn Colorado into a treat for quilters who also enjoy wine, in our first Wine Lovers’ Quilt Retreat!  Imagine a 5-day, 4-night pajama party with like-minded friends, in a beautiful mountain retreat house. It’s complete with well-equipped workspaces, a gourmet kitchen and comfortable dormitory-style accommodations!  It’s just secluded enough to focus on your creativity, without being scary-secluded ; )

In addition to spending days and nights immersed in our favorite projects, with a focus on African fabrics, we’ll spend one day in Denver proper, enjoying a trunk show with renowned fiber artist Valerie C. White, attend the WaShonaji quilt guild‘s annual exhibition opening, and enjoy a few other stops along the way.

New this year: We’ve added wine tastings to the itinerary, for an even more relaxed vibe.  We’ll be pairing wines not only with food, but also with various sewin projects, just for fun!  So register today , pack your sewing machine (ask Lisa how – it’s easy!) and a few projects, and immerse yourself in some well-deserved “me-time”.

SewJourn Updates

SewJourn updates: Our 2018 SewJourn Santa Fe is already sold out, and a wait list is available.  To be added to the wait list, please send in your registration as usual.  We will HOLD your check until a space opens up — and if one does, we’ll confirm your availability, and either process your registration, or return your check.

I think it filled so quickly in part because several of last year’s wait list contenders wasted no time this year to ensure their spots this time around  ; ) Nice work, ladies!!

Meanwhile, we DO still have spots available for our Wine Lover’s Quilt Retreat in the Colorado mountains, August 8-12, 2018…but I wouldn’t wait too long! African fabrics and wine are a match made in heaven, and together we’ll create a master pairings list of creative projects and wine (kinda like which food goes with which wine, but even funner  ; ) And we’ll spend time with my big sister, renowned fiber artist Valerie White, check out the work of our friends at the WaShonaji Quilt Guild, and a few other exciting features! REGISTER TODAY

— like, literally, LOL.
