I’m not sure where 2019 went, but I hope yours included a good amount of creative time with your favorite African fabrics ; )  If you fell a bit short of your creative goals, there’s still time to immerse yourself at the CE Studio.

Headwraps! CulturedExpressions.comYou know that moment when you’re reviewing pix on your phone from months ago, and realize you intended to share something, but never got around to it?  Well, here’s my favorite pic from Roc-A-Natural, a natural hair and healthy living expo that took place in April in NYC.  These ladies above were happy customers and couldn’t wait to try on their purchases – the lady in turq wrapped both herself and her friend. Flawless African Style, ladies, and thanks for modeling our gorgeous Ghanian batiks!! Each wrap was a simple 1-yard length.

For more on headwraps and natural hair in general, check out Cultured Expressions’ new hair page.

And if you missed RocANatural in April, you can still get great headwrapping tips and fabrics at our upcoming Customer Appreciation Day, in conjunction with Yara African Fabrics.  It happens on Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 12 to 5pm.  Details!

Recently I’ve been inundated with emails, blog posts, FB posts and more breaking the “news” that Betty Boop has Afrocentric roots, her character inspired by a black stage singer named Esther Jones, shown at left. (Click Here for BACKSTORY)  I’d heard this a couple of years ago but for some reason, in the past week she’s heatin’ up the Internet again, to the delight of BB fans everywhere and of all persuasions, myself included!

And when I found this beAfro’d Betty image online, I had to create these pins as a tribute to the growing Natural Hair Movement.  If you love natural hair and Betty Boop, and love seeing Betty Boop WITH natural hair, this pin is for you…and remember to treat your natural friends, too!

You can also pick yours up at the Cultured Expressions booth at the upcoming Connecticut Natural Hair Expo, November 8, 2014, along with our batik headwraps and more!

NaturalPin-Sharpie While prepping for the big Mane Event natural hair extravaganza this Saturday, I thought about how often Naturalistas ask each other “So, how long have you been natural?”   Add in some Afro-sportin’ Betty Boop clip art,  and the idea for the “Natural since” button was born!  Just grap a Sharpie or other permanent pen and make your statement.

Mine says “Natural since 2000” – yours might be “Natural since Birth”, or “Natural since Spring 1998”, you get the idea.  Have fun, and remember to get a few for you Natural friends, too!  Shipping is included when you order online, or get yours THIS SATURDAY at the Mane EventNaturalBettyBasket.  I’ll be there with Ghanaian batik headwraps, creative fabric ideas, and of course, the buttons! Come hang out with us! — lisa
