Happy Sunday!  I hope everyone is maintaining well through The Situation.  To that end, yesterday we published a tutorial video on the fabric face masks that are currently in such hot demand.  Sew an easy pleated face mask with Cultured Expressions’ quick tutorial by Lisa and Edie!

Cultured Expressions DIY Face Mask Video

These are not intended for hospital use necessarily, but for personal use. There are numerous tutorials, guidelines and opinions on the use of these masks…we encourage everyone to do some research on what will work best for you. Stay safe!!
***Note that in the video, after the pleats are sewn down on each short side, you should continue around the long edges of the mask as well. You can see this stitching in the photo above.  This will finish the edges nicely and close the open edge where you turned the mask inside out!! .
Due to the demand, we’ll be creating a limited number o finished masks, beginning April 1. Be sure to follow us@culturedexpressions on IG and FB as well as Cultured Expressions!

vintagecoinpurseswipSo…looking back on 2016, how did you do creatively?  Were you able to carve out time to sew, quilt, weave, knit, dye or otherwise immerse yourself in your Process?  I seem to remember getting in a pretty good amount of stitching time this year in general.  I didn’t make as many clothes as I wanted to, but I did get in a few interesting sewing hacks and repurposing projects.  I really need to work on some projects using Cultured Expressions’ ABC African Brilliance Collection strip bundles, but happily, many of you know what to do with them on your own.

I ended the year (well, yesterday being December 30) stitching up a few African Vintage Coin Purses for a few friends during our annual January 1 brunch.

It’s worth noting that these little beauties were all cut from a single African fabric (batik) quilt that suffered some damage.  I cut away the unaffected areas to create these.  (If you have your copy of Fabrigasm #5 nearby, you’ll find pix of the original quilt and the entire story inside.)

And now thru January 7 you can choose your discount — due to the great response from our last promo, we’ve extended our Holiday Savings for an extra week.  Enjoy!!  —   lisa

StripBundleFallFinally, the African Brilliance Collection is here! And now, it’s as easy as A-B-C to create your own African fabric quilt.  Play around with the 50 strips (2-1/2″ wide x 44″ long) in this bundle to create something special.

You’ll find lots of jelly roll quilt inspiration online (start here) –at least until I get my own samples done  ; )  Incidentally, I’m thinking of weaving the strips against a lightweight fusible batting, or pulling out some earth tones and turqs for quick quilt-as-you-go pillows…or maybe a Rail Fence spectrum quilt?  More ideas than time, can you relate??

If you’re among those happy Brooklyn quilt show attendees who got in on the first run of our ABC bundles, and you have something to show off, send us a pic!! And thanks to everyone who submitted a name over the past few weeks.
